Family Counseling

Family counseling can help families improve communication, increase understanding of one another and solve relationship problems.

It can involve parents, children, step-parents, step-children, grandparents and extended family members.

Parenting is no easy task, and there’s no one-size-fits-all manual to raising children. I can help by improving communication skills so that you and your partner feel more like a team; develop a plan to tackle behavioral concerns and challenges you may have with your child or teen. You will learn to “talk with” your child rather than “talk at” them.

Family counseling can be particularly useful for emotional or behavioral difficulties in children and adolescents, like angry outbursts, drug use and skipping school. Lastly, it can help family members better manage significant — and sometimes traumatic — events, like death, divorce or illness.

I like to look at a family as a “whole system”, and address all of its members’ needs.

That means that I work with parents and other caretakers to establish an environment of respect and affection. In addition, they support children in their efforts to develop themselves within the family milieu. And they work to strengthen the bonds that each family member has with one another, and assist the whole family to communicate in a positive and constructive manner.

Successful family counseling results in a more cohesive family unit, and a more positive and supportive family atmosphere in which all individuals within the family are able to grow and thrive.
